Corporate Oligarchy?

The Supreme Court has just ruled that corporations may contribute to elections with the same rights as individuals as protected by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. [link]

Is a corporation protected by the Bill of Rights? Will this decision shift more power towards the Corporate Oligarchy and away from the People? Has this decision allowed only Big Business and wealthy individuals the right to influence an election? Or, has the Supreme Court simply extended freedoms that are written into the law of the land?

These are questions that need to be answered. Feel free to comment.

  1. I have always been taught that taxation without representation is tyranny; and IMO, extending it to political speech is not any leap or stretch at all.

  2. I've never been a fan of treating corporations in the same sense as individuals. I feel it's difficult enough for The People to get the attention of their Representatives. I believe the Court made a bad decision and I suppose time will tell whether that's true or not.

  3. The Supreme Court had a very narrow issue to decide on this case, and the idea that they would broaden the decision that is expected to increase the amount of money into political campaigns seems wasteful.
